Edward J. Skicki

Edward “Ed” Joseph Skicki ,94, of Chicago, IL, passed away May 2nd, 2023. 

Edward was born on July 16th, 1928 to Frank and Mary Skicki (Majecka). After moving to the U.S. from Poland in 1912, Mary and Frank established the family home on Wood Street in Chicago, IL. Edward would call Wood Street home for the rest of his life even earning the nickname “Mayor of Wood Street” in his later years. 

On March 12th, 1941, Ed enlisted in the United States Army.  He was honorably discharged XX/XX/XXXX. When Ed wasn’t busy taking a walk or visiting with neighbors, he could be found at Hawthorne Race Track cheering on his favorite horses. He was also very active in his church and was a parishioner at Sts. Peter and Paul for many years. 

He is preceded in death by his parents, Frank and Mary, two brothers, Chester and John Skicki, and beloved sister, Dorothy Skicki. 

He is survived by life-long friends, Diane Thomason and husband Bruce, Theresa Bryk and late husband Edward, nieces, Amy Skicki, Julie Reierson, and Sara Powell, and many others who will cherish his memory. 

 Visitation will be held 9:30 a.m. Thursday, May 4th, 2023 at Sts. Peter and Paul Church -3745 S Paulina St., Chicago, IL 60609- with Mass to follow at 11:00a.m.  

Interment will immediately follow Mass at Resurrection Catholic Cemetery, Justice, IL. 

We would also like the thank the staff at the Manteno Veteran’s Home. In Ed’s final years they were able to provide a fulfilling and loving environment.
