John H. Ahrens passed away surrounded by family on June 23rd 2025 at Loyola Hospital in Maywood, IL after a hard fought 14 month battle with leukemia. He was 60 years old. Born on March 6th 1965 in Joliet, IL, John was known for his dry sense of humor and his mischievous smile. He was a hard worker and dedicated husband and father, along with so much more. Marrying the love of his life Rose in 1993, and raising their wonderful children Travis, Michael, and Emily; his family was his heart.An avid fisherman and lover of the outdoors, he took pride in his Wisconsin home. Here he spent endless hours enjoying the beauty of nature and watching the sunset on his pier. A man who made any situation better by the crack of a joke, he was the best card player at the table and later in life became the greatest “Pop-Pop” to his two grandsons. His strength, humor, and generosity will be missed beyond words but his love will forever be in our hearts.

John is the loving husband of Roseanne nee, Berni. Loving father of Travis (Gail), Mike and Emily. Dear grandfather of Gideon and Jonah. Devoted son of Janet and late Wayne. Fond brother of Lori (Kevin), David (Sandra) and brother in law of Josephine (Dennis), Donato (Jill) and Egidio (Cathy). Loving uncle of many nieces and nephews, great nieces and nephews and great-great niece and nephews. A funeral mass will be held on Saturday July 5th at St. Leonard Church, Berwyn, IL, at 10:00 a.m. for information call The Sourek Funeral Home at 708-652-6661 with any questions.
