Sergio Jesus Escobedo, 59, of Chicago IL. passed away on December 4, 2020, in Evergreen Park IL. Visitations will be on Sunday, December 13, 2020 at Sourek Funeral Manor (5646 W 35th St. Cicero, IL) from 3:00 pm-8:00 pm with a limitation of 25 guests at a time. Masks are required for entry. A church service will proceed the following morning on Monday, December 14, 2020, at Queen of Martyrs Church (10233 S Central Park Evergreen Park, IL). Following the mass, the procession will be led towards Holy Sepulcher Cemetery (6001 W 111th St. Alsip, IL). Arrangements have been made at Mama Luigi’s Restaurant (7500 S Harlem Ave. Bridgeview, IL) for a remembrance luncheon immediately following the burial. Sergio was born in Chicago IL to Fernando and Francisca Escobedo on April 27, 1961. He attended St. Rita High School in Chicago, IL. He married Maria M. Escobedo on February 27, 1993 in Chicago IL. He graduated from the University of Chicago. He worked as a Police Officer for 29 years for the Chicago Police Department. He was a Chicago PD veteran and was also a former FOP Board of Directors Trustee from 2014-2020. He was also a member of the Knights of Columbus. He received over 50+ departmental awards of accomplishments as well as numerous certificates in several departments of policing. He was known as being a talented musician with a great appreciation for music. He was well-versed in playing multiple instruments, singing, and songwriting. He had his own band, Midnight Grove has played at several different venues and establishments over the years. Along with creating music, he also was a big fan of The Beatles and Elvis Presley, which were big inspirations for his style of music. Sergio is survived by his wife, Maria M. Escobedo. His children, son Brandon, and three daughters, Sophia, Erika, and Jennifer Escobedo. His sisters Patricia Hernandez and Frances Escobedo. His mother Francisca Escobedo. He is preceded in death by his father Fernando Escobedo and his sister Maria Isabel Escobedo. Pallbearers will be Brandon Escobedo, Armando Gonzalez, Jerry Reyes, Xavier Villanueva, Francisco Hernandez and Francisco Hernandez Jr. The family would like to reach out and thank all the dedicated medical staff including his nurses and doctors of Little Co. of Mary in Evergreen Park, IL that worked around the clock to insure the ultimate care and comfort for him during his final days and continued dedication in servicing the community during these difficult times.
