Tony Houston McKeehan, aged 71, passed away peacefully on August 2, 2024, surrounded by his loving family. He was born on October 24, 1952 in Trion, Georgia to the late Troy Lee McKeehan and Darnell Amico (nee Sparks), and helped raised by his late stepfather Joseph Amico. A proud graduate from Roosevelt High School, Tony went on to have a distinguished career in the field of healthcare.
He is survived by his loving mother, Darnell; his children, Nicholas (Guadalupe), Stephanie (Rufino), Brian (Madison); and his three cherished grandchildren, Isabel, Avery and Veda; and his brother Ronald (Jenna). He was preceded in death by his wife of 48 years, Nora McKeehan and his brother, Joseph Amico Jr.
Tony devoted himself to providing a good life for his family. He is a "Hall of Fame" father who loved his children more than anything in the world. When he wasn't with his wife and children or working at Grant (Lincoln Park) Hospital, he was hanging out with his best friend…his brother Ronald. Tony had a heart of gold, incredible wit, and always found ways to make people laugh and feel good about themselves. Even in his final days, he was making doctors, nurses and other hospital staff laugh with his trademark impromptu comedy.
His loss is immense and he will be deeply missed by family and friends. To quote comedian Stephen Colbert: "Grief is a beautiful thing. I hope this grief stays with me because it's all the unexpressed love that I didn't get to tell him." Beyond the grief we feel will be the memories of Tony that will make you smile and laugh.
Tony's funeral services will be private. In lieu of flowers, donations may be made to the Pulmonary Fibrosis Foundation in Tony's memory.
